Empowering Green Data Ecosystems with Alternative Water Sources – DayOne Recognition in Malaysia
Today, in the presence of Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, DayOne was officially recognized for our role in supporting Johor as the first state in Malaysia to integrate alternative water sources into data center operations — setting a national precedent in sustainable resource management.

Our recognition was received on stage by Jamie Khoo, who also introduced our water treatment program to the DPM and MB during their tour of our booth.
In partnership with Johor State Water Company (JSW) and BM Tek, DayOne has implemented Malaysia’s first and only river water treatment system dedicated to data center operations. Located at our Kempas Tech Park facility in Johor, this system draws and treats raw water from the Sungai Tebrau, under an agreement with JSW, with operations expected to begin in November. The initiative reduces reliance on potable water and advances sustainable water management.
The initiative is part of Johor’s River for Life program and aligns with the state’s vision to lead in alternative water solutions for industrial cooling. It also demonstrates how innovation in water technology can support the rapid growth of Malaysia’s digital economy while safeguarding environmental resources.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that data center operators adopting alternative water solutions set a new benchmark for responsible industry practices nationwide. The Menteri Besar emphasized that the breakthrough — driven by the collective adoption of alternative water sources by leading data center operators, including DayOne — strengthens Johor’s position as the leading data center hub in Malaysia and supports its long-term economic and environmental strategies.
